Accessibility statement

I spent a chunk of my career on web accessibility, including taking a component library to WCAG 2.1 AA and co-writing a handbook about it, so it would be embarrassing if my own site were inaccessible.

What this site aims for

WCAG 2.2 Level AA. The site is static HTML with semantic landmarks and headings, a skip link, visible focus indicators, text contrast measured against the colour behind it, and a layout that reflows down to 320 px without horizontal scrolling.

Specific choices

  • The handwritten lines in the header are images of my own handwriting. Each one carries a text label with the same words, so screen readers announce the sentence rather than skipping it.
  • Animation is limited to a blinking cursor, which stops when you ask your system to reduce motion.
  • Nothing depends on hover alone. The joke next to Supremum is reachable by keyboard.
  • No JavaScript is needed to read anything. The 404 page uses a little, only to switch between crash screens.

Known limitations

The handwriting is decorative by nature, and its stroke contrast is lower than the body text around it. Every handwritten line is also available as plain text to assistive technology, and no information appears only in handwriting.
